A few project ideas for assistive tech challenges. These are general sketches of ideas, but still would like to meet with Lindsay from SPOTS to hear about specific needs.
‘Rocking Boat’

• A rocking (forward/backward, side/side) ‘boat’ for a sensory gym to help individuals feel a sense of containment and learn to find their balance.
• It could also provide the opportunity for group activities and understanding the relationship between separate individuals movement in space.
• This could also be enhanced with ‘rumble-pack’ type technology and be connected to a computer game where virtual actions controlled physical reactions, for multi-players or side-lyers.

Awareness Outfit

• Not sure if this would benefit individuals with sensory/spatial issues, but creating a full body suit that using video would allow the wearer to see the parts of their body (or the view from that part of their body) that they cannot see normally.
• Possibilities would be from the back of their heels, their backs, from the sides of their hips.

Magnetic Head Support

I talked with Fiona Carswell about the possibility of creating a head and spine support system for the wheelchair-bound that would use a magnetic system.
